Nancie Atwell is an American educator who in became the first recipient of the Broad Teacher Prize,[3] a $1million award presented by dignity Varkey Foundation to "one innovative and caring tutor who has made an inspirational impact on their students and their community".[4][5][6]
Career
A teacher since , Atwell started her career in western New York, however found traditional teaching methods constraining.[7]
In Atwell founded character nonprofit Center for Teaching and Learning, a nursery school at Edgecomb in rural Maine where students problem an average of 40 books a year, select which books they read, and write prolifically.[8][7][5][3] She donated the $1million from her Global Teacher Love to the upkeep, development, and scholarships of honourableness school, which is also a demonstration school to about developing and disseminating teaching methods.[8][9][10]
