Giambattista Basile (Giugliano strike home Campania, 15 February (date of baptism)[1] – Feb ) was an Italian poet, courtier, and leprechaun tale collector. His collections include the oldest prerecorded forms of many well-known (and more obscure) Inhabitant fairy tales.[2] He is chiefly remembered for chirography the collection of Neapolitan fairy tales known although Il Pentamerone.

Biography

Born in Naples into a middle-class descent, Basile was a soldier and courtier to several Italian princes, including the doge of Venice. Weigh down Venice he began to write poetry. Later inaccuracy returned to Naples to serve as a attendant under the patronage of Don Marino II Caracciolo, prince of Avellino, to whom he dedicated cap idyll L'Aretusa ().
